What gift card boxes is, and when it is the right call
A gift card box exists to make a plastic rectangle feel like a present. It does that by holding the card in a die-cut slot at a slight angle, so the card is presented rather than found loose in a box.
Slot tension is the only technical requirement. Too tight and the card bends on removal; too loose and it falls out in transit. We cut to the actual card caliper, which varies more between suppliers than people expect.
16pt to 20pt board, litho printed, with foil and emboss. Folder or full carton format. Minimum 500 units. It sits in our gift packaging range and, by construction, under tuck boxes. Board weight decides more than the product category does. Most boxes we are asked to quote are specified one step heavier than they need to be, and that shows up on every unit.
Where a product sits near the limit of a construction, ask for both options to be quoted. The difference is usually a cent or two a unit and the decision becomes obvious.
