About this line

What a barrier film has to do

A mylar bag is not one material. It is a laminate — usually a printed PET outer, an aluminium or metallised middle that stops oxygen and light, and a polyethylene inner that seals to itself when heated. How many layers and how thick each one is decides shelf life, not the print.

Tell us the product, the fill weight and the shelf life you need and we spec the structure against it. Coffee needs a valve and a heavy barrier; a dry supplement powder rarely does, and paying for one is money that could have gone into the print.

Film gauge and shelf life

Higher gauge means longer shelf life and a stiffer bag that stands better. It also costs more per bag and takes longer to fill by hand.

Digital or rotogravure

Digital has no plate charge, so short runs and many SKUs stay cheap. Rotogravure wins on unit cost above roughly 25,000 per design.

Filling on your line

If you fill on a machine, tell us the equipment. Seal width, notch position and roll direction all have to match it.

FAQ

Mylar bags questions

Anything else, a specialist answers it on the phone in a minute.

Ask about this line

One thousand bags per design on digital print. Rotogravure needs 25,000 or more to be worth the cylinder charge, and we will tell you where the crossover falls for your run.

Yes, with a certified press-and-slide zip. Tell us the jurisdiction you sell into and we will spec a structure that meets it.

Yes, and you usually need it. Without a white underbase, colours printed on clear or metallised film shift badly.

It depends on the structure and the product, not the bag alone. Send the product and target shelf life and we will spec the barrier to hit it.

Other lines we run

Send us the product and the shelf life.

We spec the film structure against it and quote the bag, the closure and the print as one line.
