What soft touch boxes is, and when it is the right call
Soft touch is a matte film laminate with a velvet surface. It is the most reliable way to make a paperboard carton feel expensive, because the effect is tactile rather than visual — the customer registers it before they have read anything on the pack.
It works best in contrast. A soft-touch carton with a spot UV or foil-stamped logo gives you a matte field with one glossy element, and that contrast is the whole design. Soft touch across the entire pack with nothing to play against it reads as merely dark.
Two things to know: soft touch shows fingerprints on very dark solids, and it deepens colours by roughly one shade, so proof it rather than trusting a screen. Minimum 500 units, ten working days. Board weight decides more than the product category does. Most boxes we are asked to quote are specified one step heavier than they need to be, and that shows up on every unit.
Where a product sits near the limit of a construction, ask for both options to be quoted. The difference is usually a cent or two a unit and the decision becomes obvious.
