About this line

Where the cost actually sits

Rigid boxes are expensive for two honest reasons. The board is four to eight times thicker than a folding carton, and the wrap is applied by hand — someone glues printed paper around a chipboard shell and turns the edges in. There is no press that does the whole job.

That is also why the finish options matter more here than anywhere else. Soft touch lamination, foil and emboss all land on the wrap paper, which is printed flat before assembly, so they are cheaper to add on a rigid box than on a carton of the same size.

Board thickness

1.5mm suits small jewellery and cosmetic boxes. 2mm is the general standard. 3mm reads substantial but adds weight and freight.

Inserts are not optional

A product that moves inside a rigid box undoes the whole effect. Budget for a board or foam insert cut to the product from the start.

Collapsible saves freight

Rigid boxes ship assembled and ship air. If the run is large or shipping far, a collapsible construction can pay for itself in freight alone.

FAQ

Rigid boxes questions

Anything else, a specialist answers it on the phone in a minute.

Ask about this line

Thicker board and hand assembly. A rigid box uses four to eight times the board of a folding carton and someone wraps each one by hand. Expect several times the unit price, not a small premium.

No, but you can get most of the effect. A heavy caliper folding carton with soft touch lamination and a foil mark reads premium at a fraction of the cost. Ask us to quote both.

Eighteen to twenty-five business days, plus transit. Hand assembly is the slow part and it does not compress much for rush orders.

Only the collapsible construction. Everything else ships assembled, which means you are paying freight on volume — worth factoring into the landed cost.
